  About Us
Michelle D. Mace-Lambert, a licensed massage therapist since 1997, is the founder and principal instructor of Barefoot Masters®.She offers instruction in Ashiatsu Bar Therapy, Ashiatsu Floor Massage, Fijian Massage, Bamboossage™ Bamboo Massage, Bamboo2Go Chair Massage, and Stones2Go® – which is an easily portable stone therapy.

She has traveled to Asia and studied with the master himself, Prahbat Menon from Kerala, India, who has written the only book on the subject of Chavutti Thirummal. She has also studied with Ruthie Hardee from Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy and Lolita Knight of Fijian massage, becoming an instructor for both parties. She left both to develop her own style and founded the Barefoot Masters.

In Ashiatsu, she developed the anterior routine as well as revamping basic Ashiatsu so everyone could do the basic one-footed techniques. She has been training therapists in Ashiatsu Bar Therapy since 2001. After the experience of giving a deep tissue without hurting after the session and receiving great reviews from clients, Michelle knew that this natural balance of using feet was the answer to most massage therapists’ basic issues: to give a deep tissue massage that was relaxing for the client and not injurious to the therapist. She believes that Ashiatsu massage is going to provide a lasting future for the massage therapists.

Michelle has a vision of wanting all therapists to do Ashiatsu, so she further developed the Ashiatsu Floor routine, suitable for house calls and for therapists who did not have use of bars.

The Bamboossage™ bamboo massage modality is her latest development for helping therapists save their hands and extend their livelihoods as massage therapists. This technique uses a heated set of bamboo and rattan tools. Many of the same bamboo tools are also used in Bamboo2Go, which is a bamboo modality utilizing portable massage chairs.

Another barefoot modality taught Michelle is Fijian Massage, which can be offered in the therapist's office or taken to a client’s home. No oils or creams are used in this technique where the client remains fully clothed and prone on floor mats and pillows while the massage therapist administers the strokes.

She also offers a course in stone therapy, Stones2Go, that is easy to learn, use, and transport to a client's home.

She has presented at AMTA in Nashville and has been a presenter at the prestigious FSMTA convention. Having taught all across the United States as well as Canada and Jamaica, she is inspired to teach a course that includes the posterior, anterior, with certification at the most affordable price available.

Michelle travels to bring these techniques to where you are. She has trained therapists for the Ritz Carlton, Hyatt , Grand Marriott, The American Club, as well as the Sans Souci Couples Resort in Jamaica. Saving the hands of massage therapists is her ultimate goal.

The courses offered are continuing education classes for Massage Therapists who need to save their hands, so they can keep doing what they love forever, while adding diversity and income to their menus.

Up to now, massage therapy techniques benefited the client but at the expense of the therapist. The modalities offered by Barefoot Masters benefit both, by building strength and grace in the areas of our bodies that need it the most, and by giving a rest to our hands.

Other instructors for Barefoot Masters include: Samantha Moeller, Brenda Mowry, and Valerie Gibson.

Valerie Gibson has several years of massage experience, having studied both here and abroad with some of the leading therapists in the industry. A rare specialist in Thai Massage, Valerie has built a solid reputation as one of the premier professionals in her field.

Valerie has been working with her feet for years so when she fell naturally into Ashiatsu it wasn’t a surprise Valerie has a true grace when she is performing Ashiatsu. She has found a love for this modality and wants to share it with other massage therapists.

Valerie has been teaching for approximately 5 years and is currently a Director for a massage program in St. Louis, MO. She has the class room experience as well as the hands on abilities to create a truly wonderful learning experience.

Valerie has studied with traditional masters in Thailand, and has blended her knowledge of other massage techniques into a truly amazing experience. Come see why clients of all shapes, ages and sizes can’t stop raving about this exceptional massage.

Samantha Moeller, RN, WRMT, has been a registered nurse since 1993 and a massage therapist since 2000. She is also the owner of small day spa (Wholistic Health Day Spa) in New London, WI where her massage staff is all trained in Ashiatsu.

Brenda Mowry worked as a registered nurse for 15 years before deciding to return to school for massage therapy. She completed her training at the Wellness and Massage Training Institute in Woodridge, IL. Brenda has owned and operated Be Your Best Therapeutic Massage since 1992.

After completing her massage training, Brenda began to take continuing education classes in the hope of finding a technique that would allow her to maintain her massage career for many years. She has taken Cranial Sacral Technique, Myofascial Release, and Jaffee Mellor Technique classes. Several years ago she took the Ahh…shiatsu® class from Barefoot Masters and discovered she had finally found the technique she had been looking for. She feels that by using Ahh…shiatsu®, she will be able to remain in the massage field for many more years. She wanted to help other massage therapists lengthen their careers so she began teaching the Ahh…shiatsu® technique for Michelle Mace-Lambert of Barefoot Masters®, Inc. last year. Brenda offers classes in both Bar and Floor Ahh…shiatsu® in northwest Indiana.

“Students enjoy learning a technique that uses something other than their hands or a tool. It is fun to watch their reaction as they realize they can do a great deep tissue massage with their feet without injuring their bodies.”
